Monday rain, Tuesday rain, Wednesday rain and so it goes on for the rest of the week. According to the UK weather forecast I’m watching now by Good Morning Britain’s quirky Laura Tobin there’s a week-load of it coming up.
I’m doing Dry January in what’s feeling like the wettest January ever. It’s been much like that since September and I’ve had enough! It rains way too much in this country and it feels to me like it’s getting worse. When talk of global warming a couple of decades ago predicated we were soon going to have the climate of Spain that certainly gave my weather cloud a silver lining.
Now the reality seems to be non-stop rain in the UK something has to be done, I’m now definitely on board with the climate activists. Seriously though I guess it beats what’s happening in Australia, floods and other extreme weather events in other parts of the world.
There’s only one thing for it right now – book a holiday. A big part of my next few days will be trawling through the likes of TripAdvisor, Airbnb and the app of my favourite airline Ryanair to get away over Easter
There’s so much choice, so many types of accommodation and places to go I’m even going to visit a travel agent to get the personal touch, something I’ve not done for years. What with the demise of the much-loved travel agent Thomas Cook and their subsequent takeover by Hays Travel, travel agents seem to have a bit of a higher profile again and a few of my friends have started to use them again.
I’m clear with my brief – the first priority is somewhere hot, where the sun shines so Spain’s aptly named Costa del Sol beckons but I want a bit of sophistication and not too many kids about so that could be a challenge. I’d also like a bit of culture, a place to visit where I can visit to tick off somewhere on my travel bucket list such as Granada’s Alhambra.
It’ll be interesting doing the research and it takes my focus away from this week of wet weather. Holiday planning and preparation can be half the fun, but with so much choice getting something just right won’t be easy. There’s a lot at stake!
